A while ago certain real steel company made an AR pistol that fired .22LR that is inspired by a certain space scoundrel/smuggler turn space civil war hero's sidearm which was based on a Mauser C96. Anyways, Maple Leaf and VFC have come together to make an airsoft version, dubbed the "ML-44". This airsoft AR gas pistol is interesting, to say the least, it is quite small, with a length of just 318mm but it does pack a lot of punch!
Being a cross-over project, you would expect the best of both worlds, and you do get it with this little beast. First of all, the ML-44 is based on the VFC AR 15/M4 V3 gas system and does come with a VFC V3 M4/AR-15 20-round gas magazine. Externally, this gas airsoft rifle comes with no handguard, but an exposed 14mm CCW threaded outer barrel allowing you to add different muzzle devices. The receiver and the end plate have Picatinny rails, allowing you to stick optics and stocks if you so wish. Maple Leaf' "PSG" (Precision Shooting Grip) is installed on this airsoft gun, this is a pistol grip with a straighter profile giving a comfortable grip and you could grip it like a regular pistol.
Internally, the ML-44 is pre-upgraded out of the box, as expected from one of the airsoft industry's well-known aftermarket/upgrade parts companies. First of all, you will notice that this airsoft rifle, sorry, airsoft pistol has a short stroke bolt and an ambidextrous fire control. That is because Maple Leaf installed their "Hummingbird' short stroke kit giving you a quick rate of fire on full auto and faster follow-up shots on semi. Meanwhile, VFC stuck the same fire control unit taken from the Umarex (Elite Force) HK416 GBB giving it an ambidextrous fire selector and you can put it on safe even if the hammer is down unlike most M4 / AR-15 platforms. (This is not a malfunction, it is a feature). Known for its precision aftermarket parts, Maple Leaf also installed their CNC hop-up unit, AUTOBOT 70-degree hop-up bucking as well as a 100mm precision inner barrel, allowing this airsoft AR pistol to be laser accurate even at range!
